Photographie elective.

During the "week of holliday" I did my elective. I choose photographie. Even if at the beginning I was disappointed to have not holidays and can't return in France, I finally enjoyed a lot this elective and I really liked this week of "not holidays."

Argentic photographie is more complicated that I thought. For each picture, we have to control many elements.

Focus: The adjustment to place the sharpest focus where it is desired on the subject.

Aperture: Adjustment of the lens opening, measured as f-number, which controls the amount of light passing through the lens. Aperture also has an effect on depth of field and diffraction – the higher the f-number, the smaller the opening, the less light, the greater the depth of field, and the more the diffraction blur. The focal length divided by the f-number gives the effective aperture diameter.

Shutter speed:
Adjustment of the speed (often expressed either as fractions of seconds or as an angle, with mechanical shutters) of the shutter to control the amount of time during which the imaging medium is exposed to light for each exposure. Shutter speed may be used to control the amount of light striking the image plane; 'faster' shutter speeds (that is, those of shorter duration) decrease both the amount of light and the amount of image blurring from motion of the subject and/or camera.

The developing process is very precise, as well by the quantities as the waiting times.

for a film 400 iso:
- 150 ml developer+ 150ml water at 20°C : develop for 14 minutes agiting every 30 seconds
- Run cold tap into tank for 30 seconds - 300ml of fix : agitate every 30seconds for 10minutes
- wash 30 times in cold
- dip into wetting agent
- hang in drying cabinet whith peg as counter weight until dry, approx 15 minutes

Making an enlargement from a negative:

we have to choose a a corrrect density with the right number of seconds for the light, and choose the enlargement size and focus.

After theses regulations, we do a time test trip using times, and view in white light to see correct density whith the light number of second. Here is an example of tese strips.

first image: 8 seconds / second image: 5 seconds / third image: 2 seconds.

(if the photo is too dark: use less light - if it is too light: use more light)

After have choose the correct density of light, we place paper shiny side up on the baseboeard an do the elargement.

Last stages: Develop / stop / fix / wash and dry the photography.

After some tests, I wanted to bring the photography to the visual communication.

Here are some trial examples of sur- imposition.

I use a transparent paper as a graphic support, and next print it in negatif on the photo.
